How can a hotel remain profitable in the long term when costs rise, markets fluctuate and decisions have to be made more quickly? The South Tyrolean start-up profitize It starts right here. The founders explain why hotel operators today need precise forecasts, well-founded analyses and smart management — and how they combine all of this in a single platform.
Interviewer: Simon, Michael — what prompted you to develop a financial platform specifically for the hotel industry?
Simon: Many hotels are now highly complex businesses with various sources of income, changing seasons and a wide variety of cost structures. What we noticed is that the systems for managing this complexity — i.e. real, integrated financial solutions — are often missing. We wanted to create a tool that would start right here.
Michael: That's right. In many discussions with owners, it became clear that the existing systems often only cover partial areas. But the hotel as a whole needs a solution that makes connections visible: between costs, utilization, personnel deployment, energy consumption and revenue. And in a form that you can use on a daily basis — for well-founded, entrepreneurial decisions.
Interviewer: What exactly does profitize offer?
Michael: profitize brings together all relevant financial data sources on a single, intuitive platform — from PMS and POS to accounting and banking to energy and HR. We consolidate the data and use it to automatically deliver forecasts, budget comparisons and benchmarks.
Simon: You can see at a glance: Where am I standing? Where are things going better or worse than planned? What happens when certain parameters change? All of this happens in real time — with the help of our AI, which recognizes patterns, predicts developments and provides concrete information.
Mark: It was particularly important to us: The platform must be so intuitive that you enjoy using it — regularly. We don't offer a classic software solution, but a modern, visual tool that is tailored to the mindset of hotel entrepreneurs.
Interviewer: Who typically uses profitze?
Simon: Our users are owners, managing directors, hotel managers — i.e. people with strategic responsibility for the economic development of one or more businesses.
Michael: And for precisely this target group, it is crucial to have reliable, up-to-date information — without clicking through five tools or endless Excel files. Profitze gives you a central overview — from operating cash flow to strategic forecasts.
Interviewer: Mark, how does AI actually help you with this?
Mark: AI is our analysis and forecasting engine. It learns from company-specific data, identifies deviations and developments — and provides concrete suggestions: for example, when budgets should be reassessed or how changes in the pickup truck affect the monthly financial statements.
Mark: Important: Users always remain in control. AI is an intelligent sparring partner — it makes recommendations, not automated commands. We see them as co-pilots: present, forward-looking, advising.
Interviewer: How does profitize change the way you look at your own company?
Simon: Many of our customers report that they are benefiting from their figures for the first time truly understand. And that changes your perspective: You make decisions earlier, more thoughtfully — and based on valid data, not from your gut feeling.
Michael: Our goal is not to replace tools — but to give back an overview. If you understand your financial data, you can actively shape your business. And that is an enormous competitive advantage, especially in volatile times like these.
Interviewer: And where should the journey go? What is your long-term vision?
Michael: We want to be the reliable co-pilot for every hotelier and restaurant owner — not only in financial planning, but also in related areas such as purchasing, energy or personnel productivity. The platform should grow with you — with operation, requirements and responsibility.
Mark: We are continuously developing our benefits technologically — with the aim of making the platform even more intelligent and individual. The aim is to provide even better support to decision makers in taking well-founded measures at an early stage — tailored to their specific operating situation.
